Junior School

Solid foundations are essential for development of all facets of a child's character and being.

In Junior school we recognise this and our programmes and curriculum are designed to give a strong base to build on -- academically, socially, emotionally, physically and spiritually, as students move through their school years.

A nurturing homeroom environment is a feature of the first years of schooling to maximize the opportunities for individual attention.

Early literacy and numeracy are a key focus. Cross-grade literacy groups allow students to develop confidence and also be extended at their own stage of development.

Maths

In 2009, the Junior School has started to teach Mathematics in ability groups rather than in grade classes. This is an exciting new step that allows teachers to work with each child at his or her own level. There is a great deal of emphasis on understanding of mathematical concepts, on the development of strategies for solving mathematical problems, and on the use of concrete materials to help children visualize the ideas that they are working with. The school has invested in quite a large amount of resources and teacher training so as to ensure that we do this well.
