In order to meet the growing need for a quality transitional education for children, Wycliffe has established a Transition Program for three and four year olds. It commenced in February, 2008.
This program provides some key opportunities for families that are seeking an environment that will equip their children with skills they need as they begin their mainstream education.
The Early Childhood Education Program at Wycliffe seeks to:
- Ensure a solid and well rounded foundation before starting school,
- Provide a seamless education from Transition to Year 12,
- Ensure that the school has a practical knowledge of the child’s learning style before they start their K-12 education, enabling placement in the best class for that child, and
- Provide an environment where children can find continuity and security in pre-established relationships as they start school.
The focus of this classroom environment is to give children the tools that they will need for a confident commencement to their schooling program. They will be provided with an opportunity to enhance their social skills and make new friends in a nurturing environment as well as affirming their value and purpose as a child of God.
Within a fun and stimulating learning environment, these core foundations will be enhanced, with opportunities for children to develop a love of learning as they discover the wonder of God’s world and their own developing abilities. This program is offered in both two-day and three-day streams. Whilst 3 year olds may be enrolled, preference will be given for 4 year olds seeking enrolment in the year prior to their school commencement.
Acceptance of a student for enrolment in Transition, will provide continuing WCS enrolment status for Kindergarten to Year 12, subject to the student continuing to conform to standard enrolment conditions. Progress to the Kindergarten program in a given year continues to be dependent on a school readiness assessment by Wycliffe staff in accordance with WCS enrolment guidelines.
In 2009 Wycliffe operates a Monday-Tuesday program with Wednesday available as an additional day and a Thursday-Friday program with Wednesday available again as an additional day.
