2009 Highlights

An early part of the 2009 trip was a visit to Crossroads International, where members of the team supported the aid effort for service in whatever role was needed on the day, re-shelving in the electrical goods room, stacking computers and printers ready for shipment to Kazakhstan, cleaning in the cafe or in the case of two team members shown here, assisting in the kitchen where meals are prepared for the dozens of regular volunteers on site each day.

The 2009 Team have continued the tradition of experiencing Cantonese eating. The group enjoyed a traditional claypot rice meal at a Cantonese restaurant on Temple Street before visiting the Temple Street Night markets in Yau Ma Tei.

During a school day visit to Living Spirit College, the group received a gift of shuttlecock birds following a demonstration and some skills practice at this Asian game. Played on a court similar to badminton, the shuttlecock is able to be trapped or propelled from player to player by use of the chest, knee or foot before being kicked over the net.

Following a school day, some of the team enjoyed a game of cards and Cantonese snacks with some of their new Cantonese friends

An afternoon school excursion included a visit with some Living Spirit College students to one of the older walled villages near Tai Po where people traditionally lived in clan groups around a shrine. Later the group visited the new meat and fish market in Tai Po.
